Freakshake — extravagant milkshake
The freakshake is the maximum-extravagance American milkshake of the 2010s — a tall glass of milkshake crowned with whole cookies, doughnuts, cake slices, fudge sauces, whipped cream towers, and any other available dessert. They are calorically extreme and entirely Instagram-driven.
i. Origin & history
Freakshakes were invented in 2015 at the Patissez café in Canberra, Australia (despite their American character) by Anna Petridis. They went viral on social media and spread across the United States and beyond.
ii. Ingredients

- 500 ml vanilla ice cream
- 250 ml whole milk
- 2 tbsp chocolate sauce
- 2 tbsp caramel sauce
- 300 ml double cream, whipped
- 1 whole doughnut
- 2 cookies
- 1 slice cake
- Sprinkles
- Chocolate sauce
- Caramel sauce
- Maraschino cherries
- Pretzels
- Anything else from the dessert cabinet
iii. Method
- Blend ice cream, milk, chocolate and caramel sauces to a thick shake.
- Brush the rim of a tall glass with chocolate sauce; dip in sprinkles.
- Pour shake into the glass.
- Pile whipped cream on top.
- Stick the doughnut on a skewer; place across the glass. Stick cookies, cake slice, pretzels around. Drizzle with extra sauces. Top with cherries.
- Photograph immediately. Eat with multiple straws and spoons.
